Benefits of Timely Tooth Extraction

It may be hard to imagine any benefits to removing one of your child's teeth, but there are several ways tooth extraction can support optimal oral health and comfort.

Prevents Further Infection

Removing an infected tooth safeguards your child's overall oral health by preventing the spread of infection to other teeth and parts of the mouth.

Relieves Pain and Discomfort

Extracting a severely decayed or damaged tooth can relieve significant pain and discomfort, improving your child's comfort and quality of life.

Supports Oral Development

In cases of overcrowding, extraction helps ensure permanent teeth have space to emerge correctly, which supports proper alignment and oral health.

Reasons for Children's Tooth Extraction

As a dentist who treats children in Miami, Dr. Paula may recommend tooth extraction for several reasons, including:

  • Severe Tooth Decay — Extraction may be the best option when a tooth is too decayed to bechildrens tooth extraction miami | group of teenagers saved.
  • Infection or Abscess — To prevent the spread of infection, it may be necessary to remove the tooth.
  • Overcrowding — Sometimes, we need to extract teeth to make room for permanent teeth or to prepare for orthodontic treatment.
  • Trauma — If a tooth is severely broken or damaged from an accident, we might recommend extraction.
  • Wisdom Teeth — If wisdom teeth are impacted or cause overcrowding, removing them is usually the best option.

If Dr. Paula needs to remove a baby tooth, she will likely recommend a space maintainer to keep the gap open to ensure adult teeth have the space they need to emerge correctly.

Wisdom Teeth Extractions in Miami for Teens

As your child grows, their dental needs evolve. One common issue for teens is the development of wisdom teeth, also called third molars. These teeth are the last to emerge, so they often crowd existing teeth. In some cases, wisdom teeth don’t erupt at all and become fully or partially impacted (stuck in the gums). If your teen needs wisdom teeth extraction, Dr. Paula will refer you to an experienced oral surgeon in our area.
